WASHINGTON, D.C., OCTOBER 1, 2024 – The National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO), the leading advocacy and accreditation association representing companies modernizing our nation’s building infrastructure, announced six finalists for the NAESCO 2024 Member Award.
The NAESCO Member Award honors the achievements of and recognizes exemplary projects from member companies that show the full potential of public-private partnerships. Efforts recognized by this award include significant or unique savings, innovative project approaches or technology uses, overcoming significant project obstacles, achieving environmental justice goals, and incorporating community development and outreach, among others.
This year’s finalists include:
- Ameresco for its multi-year, deep energy retrofit Utility Energy Service Contract (UESC) project with Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in Oklahoma, marking GSA’s first deep energy retrofit using Grid-Interactive Efficient Buildings (GEB) technologies – implementing eight innovative technologies. This project will pave the way for the transformation of other federal buildings. Ameresco partnered with NAESCO members Greentech Energy Services, PowerSecure, and ECM Holding Group.
- Centrica Business Solutions for its partnership with the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH), employing energy and building efficiency initiatives through an Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) agreement offered by Metrus Energy. The EaaS financing model allowed UNOH to complete comprehensive building upgrades while staying cashflow positive. This was a groundbreaking initiative for the campus, upgrading 28 buildings and saving 1,922,990 kWh of electricity, 3,054 therms of natural gas, and 7,343,000 gallons of water annually. Centrica partnered with NAESCO member Envocore.
- DCO Energy for implementing the largest Energy Savings Improvement Program (ESIP), $122M, in New Jersey’s history at Jersey City Public Schools, identifying innovative financing strategies, and implementing a community outreach component that includes education programs in the classroom and career opportunities for students, recent graduates, and local residents. DCO partnered with several NAESCO members for this project, including Greentech Energy Services, Lutron, Keystone, RAB Lighting, Shepard Electric, ECM Holding Group, and Envocore.
- ENGIE, for its multifaceted approach to implementing project innovations for the City of Menlo Park at the Belle Haven Community Campus, which serves as the Red Cross Emergency Center. Through this project, the city has created a pioneering facility, including a microgrid for backup power, solar and energy storage, an all-electric pool heating system, a commercial-grade kitchen with all-electric appliances, and numerous electric vehicle charging stations available to the public—putting the facility on a path to achieving net zero.
- NORESCO for its collaboration with the Honolulu Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) to support the City & County of Honolulu’s Climate Action Plan 2020–2025. They developed a $39M Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) to optimize utility savings at 49 locations, creating 400 local jobs (80% Hawaii residents). NORESCO also adjusted work and lighting schedules to protect the endangered Hawaiian green sea turtle, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to preserving Hawaii’s wildlife and cultural heritage.
- Veregy for its commitment and dedication to enhancing energy and operational efficiencies in one of America’s most underserved communities, Chinle Unified School District in Chinle, AZ. By utilizing an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) bolstered by federal funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the district is set to achieve $73.5 million in lifetime savings. Veregy also showed true partnership and care by providing supplies in response to severe flooding in Chinle.
The award will be presented at the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO) and Energy Services Coalition (ESC) joint annual meeting, R3 Conference and Innovation Expo, in Anaheim, CA, November 4th – 6th.
